If you’ve lost a tooth, recover it and put it in a container of cold milk, then bring it to our office with you. Lost dental work can be placed in a small plastic baggie or container.

Treat pain, discomfort, and bleeding

Next, you should take steps to treat pain and discomfort. You can take over-the-counter medication like ibuprofen to help with pain, and ice the affected area. If you’re bleeding, use clean gauze, cotton balls, or paper towels to absorb blood.

What is Considered a Dental Emergency?

Some of the most common types of dental emergencies include chipped, cracked, or damaged teeth, tooth infections, loose or knocked-out teeth, and missing or damaged dental work. However, lots of different things count as emergencies. If you’re in pain or your mouth is bleeding and you can’t treat the problem on your own, you’re having a dental emergency, and you should contact us for a consultation right away.

What Should I Do If I Chipped My Tooth?

First things first, contact Smiles by Dr. Leila for a same-day appointment in Poway. We’ll see you as soon as possible. If you’re in pain, we recommend taking some pain medicine like ibuprofen or naproxen.

If your tooth is bleeding, use a clean cotton ball, a piece of gauze, or a paper towel to apply pressure to the area. Bleeding should slow and stop within 30 minutes to an hour, at most.

Then, just come to Smiles by Dr. Leila for your emergency appointment. Depending on the extent of the chip, Dr. Leila may recommend dental bonding, veneers, or a dental crown to repair your tooth and restore your smile.
